It doesn’t seem to have been picked up by the major news outlets yet, but it appears Yahoo! is in the process of layoffs right now. It looks like about the only place to find any info is on Twitter. What is Twitter? It’s like one big chat room with lots of different conversations going on all at once. To see the chatter about Yahoo! and from Yahoo current and now former employees, you can use the Titter search feature and see all the comments about Yahoo! layoffs.
Judging by the Yahoo! layoff Power Point over on ValleyWag, the chief Yahoos have done some preparation and may have known this was coming for a while.
While getting laid off can be scary and cause some short term anxiety and tough times, it is often a blessing in disguise. It forces you to think differently, get out of the routine you’ve been in for a while and gives you a chance to start over. It seems like a company with billions in cash, decent cash flow and earnings would be able to redeploy its employees elsewhere in the company but apparently not. Yahoo! probably has a decent severance package and the Yahoos getting laid off are talented, smart web savvy people that another company would love to have. Good luck to all the ex-Yahoos and all the new ventures that will undoubtedly spring up from this new class of entrpreneurial people with great talent!
