PSIA National Academy Snowbird Utah, 2008 - Day of Arrival

The time had finally arrived - time to wrap things up at work and head out to Snowbird ski resort in Utah for the PSIA National Academy - my first one. The flight was scheduled to depart Philadelphia at 7am and actually did. It was a direct flight so I left Philadelphia at about 7am and was at Snowbird by 11am. The room at the Cliff lodge was ready upon early arrival and they even let me check in early.

The PSIA event comes with a 5 of 6 day ski pass. It was a really nice day when I got out there but after not bring able to sleep the night before the flight I was wiped out. The skis were left at the bellstand with the intention of going out to hit the slopes but I was to exhausted to get out there.

The hotel is nice and right on the slopes - the Cliff lodge. It is a little worn in places but overall a very nice place and literally ski in-ski out.

Since I went solo and at the last minute, they paired me up with someone in the same situation. Doug, a very cool guy from Arizona, 50 I think, hell of a skier as are so many people out here. By the time he walked into the room (he actually drove from Arizona which is like 9.5 hours) I was passed out on the bed with my feet up on the duffle that hadn’t been unpacked.

The night was uneventful and I hit the sack fairly early cause I was wiped out and the events the next day started at something like 7am with breakfast and then 8:45 on snow ready to team up the slopes.

All-in-all it was a good day, no travel snafus, no lost luggage and a great feeling to be out at Snowbird ski resort for a great 10 days or so of skiing!
